ROTFL!!!! :gi:gi:gi

The good news is though that I have not only gotten decks for you really. So I guess you are not my only pimp:bl

Btw, on Comparative Tarot list they used to call me the Tarot Madam, thanks to my enabling and getting decks abilities :cl

I have often thought that tarot collectors fall under two generalized varieties: those who have everything in their collection (or at least as much as funding would allow), and special interest ones. I guess I've always thought you, adam, la luna, gregory, as well as several others here fall under the first variety, with some decks (wolf pack, power animal), being isolated incidents. :)

Hmm, so... I am curious. After this thread, do you still think I fall in the first variety? Or am I just some freaky mix of both varieties? :cl

And about the hidden ID's on Ebay. I like it and I don't. I do like the fact that I don't have to feel so guilty if I outbid someone I know. But I most certainly want to know who I am bidding against and who gets the decks. Oh well...

I'm kind of a mix of the two types  - I am not as picky as some, but I do specialize a bit.   I have to like the art, or at least think I like it before I buy a deck.   I also collect on several themes.

I it would be unlikely for me to every have the Golden Tarot of Klimt, the Bifrost, Jumbledance, Sedona Vortex, Tarot of Timeless Truth, and this certain deck I see all the time on another website.   Every time it's featured I go in and look and say, "nah" every time.   (I never remember the name, either)

I have but loath the Voyager, Arcus Arcanum, Unicorn, several Dragon decks, Faery Wicca, and a few others.
I have to admit, I am always slightly happy when I run across decks I know I will be unlikely to add to my collection.

There's a lot of decks I don't want.  (Shall I leave the forum in shame?)

I'm surprised when I think of how many I've had and traded away or sold.  Later I'll make up a list of my "here's your hat, goodbye and good luck" decks.

I'm curious if you real collectors keep the ones you don't like, or if you kick them out of the house--and which ones?

I have never regretted getting rid of decks. Or wait, just once, with the Tarocco di Amerigo Folchi, but then I bought it again about a week later. The others, no regrets.

So I guess I am not a real collector after all, since I don't keep my 'misfits' :cl

Get rid of a tarot deck!?!?!   :n

Not even the ones I loathe, at this point.   Although I have thought about it, especially since there are people out there who would love them, and a few aren't so easy to find.   For the time being, I just think of them as part of the collection.

Actually, there are a lot of decks on my "nuh-uh" list that just didn't spring to mind.

I keep 'em; warts and all! Truth is, I can usually find something to appreciate about each deck, even if it doesn't work as a whole for me. I've picked up some of truelighth's Red Headed Step Children along the way - the Savage Tarot comes to mind - and I also took in Nicole's poor unloved waif, the Pandora Tarot.

I have a few manga decks, but overall I avoid anime or manga style decks because the genre just doesn't appeal to me. I also tend to avoid Lo Scarabeo decks now - too many issued that too little thought went into, with inconsistent artwork and/or the appearance of being strictly commercial.

Tastes are indeed different. So far, all I have seen from the Da Vinci Enigma Tarot doesn't really appeal to me. Though  I have to admit that it is lovely art. And I guess the name is also one of the reasons I am put off this deck (with the whole Da Vinci craziness and all). Glad you like the deck though.

The list of decks I don't want is a lot longer than the decks I do want, so keep it short I'll just say I don't want any deck with ugly artwork (well, what I consider ugly ;))

I could also add I don't want decks that have a lot of extraneous text, numbers, symbols, "systems", large borders, etc.

Hmmmm...guess that narrows it down to the few decks I have already!

I seem to keep decks that I would normally consider to be lousy artwork, but once in my hot little hands, they stay.

I am not really into the "systems" either.  If I was to read (which I do rarely), I don't want to have to spend a lot of time learning how to read with a particular set of cards.  And I am not into ones that take forever to understand the designers imagery.  There is a thread about the the lines and rectangles standing for something or the other, and no one seemed to get it.  I consider it a waste of time if I have to try to read the artists mind, I like the images to be pretty obvious, or at least somewhat standard.  The fun is in the various ways artists interpret the cards.

I have a lot of decks I do not connect with yet.  I am not getting rid of any of them b/c I'm a collecting for my granddaughters. One of them is definitely psychic, maybe both.
I removed my thoughts b/c they are just my thoughts and I do not wish to offend the authors or their friends. I have friends too and know how that feels.

There are many more decks out there that I have and don't use but they sit high and dry on my bookshelf.  Maybe some day someone (me maybe)  will need them.
I had the Quest in my home for two years before I related to it. And when I did, WOW-it is my go to deck now.
I like Jeremy very much and if he can get his deck mass produced I will buy the BiFrost.   The nudity in it does not bother me anymore than other decks with nudity in it.  For example the cosmic tribe has very graphic nudity. I really like that deck too.
Oh, I did think of one type of deck I seldom buy, the manga decks. I have one- the Lunatic deck.  I just do not like the child like waif bodies with huge bosoms and the sexual situations of characters who look like a 10 yr  child. I find that repulsive and refuse to encourage it by buying those decks.  I made an exception for the Lunatic but may not keep it.

Better to wait for the Tarot of the PACIFIC Dolphin Mermaid Godesses.
(It's better cardstock.)

Tansey wrote:  PoMo. I am afraid to post that on another board b/c the last time I did it incurred  wrath.   The deck just reeks of arrogance to me.  But it has a home, safe and sound on my bookshelf. I even own his Light an shadow.  I get nothing from it.
Another one that I am afraid to post about is the new Anna K. Am I the only person who has picked up on some religiosity and finds it a bit punitive?  I must be b/c everyone else seems to adore it. It will live happily on my shelf too.
I also bought the Fifth Tarot and for whatever reason it just leaves me cold.   Oh, I did think of one type of deck I seldom buy, the manga decks. I have one- the Lunatic deck.  I just do not like the child like waif bodies with huge bosoms and the sexual situations of characters who look like a 10 yr  child. I agree with you about the PoMo, I bought it then promptly sold it. Ick. The Light & Shadow I cannot connect with, leaves me blank, but I've kept it.

The Fifth Tarot as well leaves me sort of cold. I thought I would really love it and get a lot from it. Not so much. I guess I wasn't expecting it to be so new agey as it is. One of the things that bugged me was all the talk about the missing "ether" 5th suit. Errrr I thought that the Majors was the ether suit? Also my personal opinion is when you add a whole suit and change all the suit names around and all else....it's not a Tarot anymore. Some others I know have differing opinions. But someday I might really get into and I will finally resonate with the deck & book, so I'll keep it!

Like you I've found that decks I can't get a thing from might years or months down the road be exactly what I need & want.

I own the card edition Lunatic. I've looked at it 2x and I agree about the child with huge breasts, really not my thing. Also it looks like the same girl on every card. That gets old.

I have to ask though about the Anna K. I didn't get any feeling or vibe of religiosity whatsoever. Can you give a few examples or aspects of what you saw in the deck that you think is that way, I'm quite interested to know. Same with the punitive feeling you saw from it.

I dislike that one primarily because - well, someone described it as a gynaecological Thoth. Yes. Nudity is fine with me, but splayed female genitals get tiresome after a few cards.

Others I wouldn't take as a gift:
- New Orleans Voodoo Tarot
- Motherpeace, Daughters of the Moon and the like
- Power Animal
- Maat - yes, I know I owned it once, hated it and sold it promptly

ETA: oh yes, and Major Tom's TdM

Absolute turn-off for me when the Hermit wears glasses, or the Chariot is a car, or the 6 of wands a refinery...tarot should maintain some of it's mystical, not so mundane characteristics...if you want your deck to be modern, there are other ways...The New Tarot for the Aquarian Age, Servants of the Light or Transparent tarot have revolutionary and contemporary elements without representing car as a chariot (just as example)(it looses for me its roots or its power given by having roots of at least a good few hundred years).

Otherwise I stay away from manga decks and I don't like certain computer generated decks that though beautiful pictures, but feels like a 'cold' deck.

I do get rid of decks that don't have anything to say to me; but I'm not a real collector - I only collect decks that I could/would use for a reading (even if I never will!). Meaning beside art, if it is a tarot deck, it should show a tarot deck not just some nice pictures. Tarot is asking from an artist a lot more than a nice picture....and every artist who puts together a good tarot deck has my utmost appreciation ...but for me to like a deck it does have to fulfill certain criteria, some basic 'tarot' requirements....(which could be different for evryone but that's just the beauty of it...its variety and still elements of unity at the same time)

I know just what you are talking about. Did I add the Power Animal Tarot to my list of not wanting to have? I hope I did, because it sure belongs there. I also have a few decks that I am actively not wanting to have.. Tarot of the Witches for one. And the Power Animal. And the Charmed... and... oh well... check earlier list

Edited to say: Phew, the Power Animal is on there after all. I almost thought I forgot to add it to my ABSOLUTELY-NOT-WANT list... :Z

I think if necessary the BF could be edited a bit, like a few loin cloths. If that is all that is keeping it from  being acceptable.  Jeremy has been through a journey and I hope he can get it conveyed through his art. However, when I think about the Cosmic Tribe and the male genitalia, it is just as graphic. I can understnd why someone  would find that offensive. You certainly could not use it to read with in public.
Also I noticed the Miss Cleo deck is laughed at a lot. I own the deck and it actually reads very well.  I understand the author is a bit of a joke, but the deck is not bad.:D

Hello!

I have see you might have the First Edition Oracle of the Dragonfey. You may be able to help. My sister has disappeared. I know where to find her but she is not in communication anymore. I love her more than anything and this separation is heart rending. I know that she was looking for the first edition Oracle of the Dragonfey. I think if I found a copy and sent it to her she will know that I still care and I’m here for her when she needs me.

Do you still have your first edition and may I buy it from you? I have bought it several times online but every time it shows up in the mail it is the second edition not the first. I need the first edition. Please let me know if you are willing to sell yours to help connect two sisters again. I can throw in an astrological chart as well for fun and good measure.

Fingers crossed.

I feel alone in this one, but Shadowscapes! The colour palette is one I would usually enjoy, but I find the cards so busy and a bit too sweet.
