Shirl, this is beautiful. It is coherent, it flows, it's full of symbolism but it's readable, I love the stars in the flowing water. Lovely.

Your Star is wonder full !! This is my favorite card of yours so far.
I really like the repeating symbolism that flows throughout the card, like constellations.
Thanks for expressing and sharing your creative vision!

First off it was well 'worth it' to find your work. The cards are incredable!
Secondly, I am always a tad awestruck of people who not only have creative visions but can also manifest them ... it is great to watch a work in progress.
Are you thinking of publishing someday?

Don't feel awe please. It make me feel like a fraud. The thing is .... I can see, in my mind, what I want to create, and know how far I fall short.
I do consider myself fortunate to have some small talent. My mother and sister are artists ... but both - particularly my sister - have far more talent that I do. Completely different styles and interests so, fortunately, no competition. That would be awful.
As far as publishers go ... I have had an offer of a small print run of a full deck. They would prefer unillustrated pips. I prefer a combination of illustration and plain pips (together on each card), so that people have a choice in how they read, or just fully-illustrated. Reality is that I cannot imagine living long enough to do 78 canvases - especially trying to combine pips unillustrated, with illustration. I work very slowly. Also, I don't know how serious the offer was.
I'm not fussed about it. At the very least, I would like to self-publish the Majors in a very small print-run. Oh course I have neither the skills to do so, the equipment, nor the money to purchase the equipment and skills. So who knows.
Primarily I am doing this because it feels right, it feeds my soul, and I quite literally don't want to live if I am not painting.

Ah the downside of being talented... I guess I don't feel so bad LOL
Take it from one of the untalented ... we still can't peek behind the screen and are quite happy with the wizard :)

Silence is golden. At least no one as been 'polite' and said something 'nice' that they don't mean. Silence is also full of commentary.
It's alright. I don't think much of it either, but I am not going to paint another version for this deck because my Dad loved it ... may he rest in peace and may he stop locking my back door while in spirit form.

Mythos, it's beautiful. And silence is certainly due to lack of traffic on site at weekends. If you're painting the major arcana in order you must be on the last few cards now - ? I'm so looking forward to seeing the full set. Your Dad? I haven't been around too much lately so didn't know - busy on bringing a project to completion (watch this space) . Sending you good energies.
I've told my mum (87 now) that she's to let me know she's around too by whatever means - but locking you out is very naughty...!

Hi Pen,
And thanks. I'm a day ahead of most people here, and I would have thought that weekends would have been high traffic times. All that proves is that I live in your future and have no life .
Dad died 20 days ago, here at home in a hospital bed. I'm grieving, and that really is why I was/am a grumpy bitch. ... stage 2 of the Grieving process.
Mum lives next door, but Dad lived with me for the past 18 months. I am very close to them both and not just geographically. Dad often locked the back door in life. It was a safety concern for him. He kept forgetting that I never locked it, not only because my son and his fiance, who live in the unit out back, come in that way, but because I lost the key 20 years ago.
So, he was locking it in spirit to keep me safe, not taking into consideration that, unless I had the front door key on me when I go out (i.e. to the letter box, or next door to see Mum ... and I usually don't then), I am locked out.
In life, Dad could, and did astral travel and move things physically. He's not in the house any more ... he has moved on.
I really don't care about the painting. Reality is that I don't care about anything much at all, except getting me, Mum and my older sister through this time. My older sister moved into a unit next door recently because her husband died of cancer less than two months ago. Too much ... all too much.
I'm not doing the 22 in order ... just as they present themselves to me for painting. I have no desire to ever paint tarot again. Depression - Stage 4 of grieving ... they inter-mix. I have no desire to paint at all. I can't even remember which tarot canvases I have painted.
I am looking forward to seeing your project completed. It is good to have something to look forward to. Mum has to have a CT scan ... looking for tumours. Too, too much.

Oh Shirley, it seems that trouble and sad events never come in ones, but always in twos or threes. And you're right - the grieving process does move through seemingly ordered stages, and never truly ends, but somehow acceptance happens sooner or later, which is just as well, since we're powerless to undo what's happened. What does not destroy us makes us stronger. You must be a strong person to have come through so far, and I'm sure that your art has played a huge part in that. I always think that the creative impetus is an amazingly sustaining force. You say that you have no desire to paint tarot ever again, but I'm as sure as can be that you will, and that thinking about art, letting the ideas come and the images form in your head will help to get you through the difficulties ahead and help with the healing process. Also (selfishly!), I and many many others are looking forward to to seeing the Mythos Tarot shining out in completed beauty and originality.
Sending you all Love and Light

Would telling you I need a man like the one on your Sun card to hold up my ta tas make you smile? Your art is lovely and may be one way to fill time while you grieve. It is true time heals, perhaps not as quickly we we want, but it does. My thoughts are with you and yours.

Yesterday was a particularly bad day grief and depression-wise. Today is a little better and I plan to buy a canvas for my next tarot painting. Nothing's calling me yet ... oh hang on a minute ... light goes golden, top of head tingles ... Wheel of Fortune it is.
Well there you are.

Due to some constructive criticism on another site, I have done a little repainting ... mainly painted the winged scarab much larger.
I really do need a professional photographer to do these. Canvases are 90cms X 60cms.

You've made her smile too, mythos! One tiny thing more...? If you made the lines that indicates the (out)sides of her breasts more curved and extended them very slightly higher that would negate the breast-flattening effect caused by the position of her hands. Just a thought - feel free to ignore.

Yep ... did make her smile a little. On the painting itself, the shading makes the breasts more rounded. I hadn't noticed that this didn't translate to the photo. Thanks for pointing it out (there is a very bad unintentional pun in that last sentence). I will follow your advice indeed. As a self-learning painter, I need all the help I can get. Thank ye muchly.

I have been away from the forums for a bit (busy, busy RL times) but just wanted to tell you how much I like the Star and the Sun. I liked the first Sun, but the changes you made were excellent - she looked so sad before (maybe something working itself out....).

Well, I finally found a camera ... in the most logical place possible - my camera bag - and thus the last place I looked. This a a pattern which I must change. Anyway, again a truly revolting photo ... though I think this is worse than my others. I ran out of battery so I didn't have a huge number of disasterous pics to collect the best from. Eventually, when the 22 canvases are finished, I'll get someone who can see and knows what s/he is doing to photograph them.
Oh ... the small figure on the unicycle (bottom left) is meant to be the Fool pedalling along, completely oblivious to the Wheel ... and the one on the right is meant to be the Magician (with an upside down hat with rabbit peaking out) who, through his tricksterish aspect, has managed to get himself hooked on the wheel.
The Buddha is not 'above' but a part of the Wheel because only in physical form can we reach buddhahood. What else ... oh, on the spokes are a progression of evolutionary developments - crustacean (probably can't be seen), snake, lizard, rat, monkey. Delerium Art as Blue Toy so aptly named it.
mythos - still deleriously ill but protected from winter cold by a high temperature. There is something positive in almost anything ... I think

A fascinating and different-from-the run Death, mythos, with lots of thought-provoking symbolism. I'd love to see this larger, so that the details would be clearer. Death as Angel, standing central to life and its seasons (though he's slightly more in summer than autumn); crowned (hero/king?)? His scythe is pointing rather scarily at the pregnant woman. The symbols that curve across the top to the left of the sphere - cells multiplying? - more thought needed. All this and God and Nietzsche too, which oddly, prompted the thought that I never ever think about God when I see the Death card...
Well done mythos, you're getting there... Happy birthday for 7 days (or is it 6 now?) time.

A new one. Below is the same 'guff' that is on AT's.
I don’t relate very well to The Lovers. In part this is a result of disastrous personal experiences, but also because I just don’t ‘get’ the PCS interpretation. I prefer the Marseille decks with their element of choice. I wanted to use both types of cupids – Type 1 - Dodal – the left facing blindfolded (Love is blind????) cupid with it’s element of fate. Type 2 – the Conver – the right-facing ‘able-to-see’ cupid. Here we have the element of choice (though the choice is not ours, but cupids). Also this introduces an element of potential ‘tricksterish’ behaviour/outcome.
I decided to include both, joining them like an amphisbaena (two-headed serpent or lizard in Medieval Bestiary), curled in the middle as sun and moon hinting at the alchemical wedding of sun and moon, male and female, even individuation.
One of the problems with the TdM is the gender imbalance in the main figures, as well as the limitation to heterosexuality. Even if you interpret the TdM as developmental/maturational – the push-pull problems of leaving behind mother (family-childhood) and moving towards partnering (love and work) – maturity; or even if you interpret the two women as virtue and vice, or just a male making a choice between two females, still the gender imbalance exists, as does the emphasis on heterosexuality.
Consequently, I chose six faces. If one imagines it, an invisible six-pointed star can be imagined joining the faces – three male, three female – with all the symbolism of the star hidden, as well as having the six faces reflecting the number of the card. This combination of male-female-male and female-male-female eliminates the gender imbalance. Also, of course, any possible coupling, gender-wise, becomes possible.
The arrow shoot vines with heart shaped flowers which wind, growing, throughout the figures. It suggests the qualities of binding, like the ring does, between relational pairs. I originally painted one female and one male with a number of tightly bound vines around their necks to indicate that love can be possessive and strangling, but from a purely artistic perspective … this just did not work. So I painted them out.
Giving into my rotten photography, I haven’t even attempted to present this in card form. All the people are real … from photographs, with slight changes so that they are no recognisable.

dont know if you intended this but if I was doing a reading and this card appeared that would trigger me to connect with one's inner light when making a choice...

This is supposed to be the new and 'improved' version of the ex-Holy Man, now Shaman. Reasons for change: Holy Man banner was about 6 ft tall and coated in high gloss clear paint - therefore even a person who could photograph well would not be able to deal with the flair factor. Second, I wanted the darken the skin and change some symbolic stuff. Third, I wanted it to be less 'floral' Well, it ended up more 'floral', though now the sides are more balanced pillar-like (maybe). I kinda overdid it with the beads. But, it is the same size as my other canvases .... even though I just couldn't 'improve' ... maybe it went the other way. Dozzen-madder! Now 'to the Moon, Alice' ... er ... mythos!
Oh, and lousy photograph as usual.

Gosh Pete .... your poem is so apt for my Moon, which I finished just last night. I haven't been around much. I got a new diagnosis ... same as yours ... amazing the difference a pill makes.
Now for my moon - this is the same info as on AT's, but I must add red-gold sky for women's moon-time.
Symbols etc in my Moon card.
- Moon – obvious, but I wanted to show it full faced as well as the phases.
- Cat “Towers” – You probably all know the joke about cats remembering that they were once worshipped and that they haven’t forgotten. E.g. Bast – Egyptian Goddess – feminine symbols
- Crayfish-woman. I wanted to communicate the idea that, in moonlight, things are not always what they seem; they shift in shape and meaning.
- Owl – In my Animal Dreaming book, the owl represents deception – again the idea that all is not what it seems.
- Pearls – Lunar symbols
- Hare – My sister would call this a ‘weed’ animal. She is a botanical illustrator, and thus talks in plant language. Here in Australia, the Hare is a ‘weed’ – in other words – it is an introduced species. In ‘Animal Dreaming’, it represents 'Lunar' energy.
- Seaweed – all manner of things are hidden in sea weed from the most beautiful to the most dangerous.
- Sea – mind fluid
- Path – the road towards the meeting of male and female, a pointer the next and final card of the three luminaries – the Sun.
- Eyes in Jungle – again the hidden, and unknown.
- Two Pisces symbols – Pisces people can be wonderful dreamers, visionaries, intuitives and creators of fiction. They can also become pathological liars and exaggerators, and project their misperceptions and deceptions onto those in the external world.
Meanings: Illusions, delusions, deception, perception, intuition, exploration of things ‘hidden’ – in our own psyches or occult subjects, emphasis on the feminine in both genders, projections.

This one dissatisfies me. I am ill and fatigued so this may be the reason. On the other hand ... it may just be awful. I hope that I communicated that one female and one male arise from that deep sleep of unknowing.

The Sun Also Rises
Should there be an occasion when I find myself being reviewed
on a heavenly "Judgement Day" then I really think it will be the
best sort of experience, the ecstasy of fulfilment, as a positive,
rewarding event. Various creeds becry more a Damnation Day,
but that is about fear and punishment... and not Spiritual Love.
Optimism & Growth are my keywords for Arcanum 20 (Jupiter).

I see the Hanged Man as being a 2 phase card. This is a reflection of my thinking on ‘Mythos’ vs. ‘mythos’, and my own personal experiences of Hanged Man years in 1998-9 and 2007-8.
If we think of the ‘Mythos’ as an expression of the collective unconscious/tarot archetypes (Jung-Joseph Campbell-Major Arcana), we have the universal pattern of the visual image – the Hanged Man. When we interpret it through our own experience, we include the ‘mythos’- personal unconscious.
I feel the initial Hanged Man experience as one of being all turned upside down and pulled out of shape by external happenings. One feels bound in barbed wire, bleeding, and trying to remove it. The second stage is the disconnected phase when one has past through the crisis, accepted the new view but still requiring the time to float on and in the waters of emotional upheaval in order to prepare for the next card. The water-emotions are still a little choppy but one floats, incorporating the new perspective, new emotional experiences, beyond drowning in them, and well past being torn apart and stretched past one’s previous coping limits.
Same rave as on AT's.

This is the same rave as the one at AT's.
Here is the World/Universe. I decided to use the four elements in the corners rather than the cardinal signs. For those of us who live in this half the planet, the relationship between cardinal signs and seasons is hokum. e.g. Leo the Lion, herald of the Sun and summer, actually heralds winter here.
I didn't know it at the time, but I painted the bushfire circle to represent the element of fire on Black Sunday while my state of Victoria burned, homes burned, bushland, animals, people burned and died. I only found out about it 2 days later.
I have been in one of my 'breakdown' phases (forgot to take my mood stabilisers) so I have been out of touch with the media. It interests me that painting this card resulted in, and was experienced by me, as integrating elements and finding a new relationship both spiritually and physically in the world. It was hell, but heaven too. The central clock with the ouroboros hands represent finite and infinite time. The bottom circle is Malkuth, and the top, Kether. My figure dances, in perfect integrated balance connecting macrocosm and microcosm, the finite world and infinite, the sun (masculine) and moon (feminine) integrated on one breast ... the chymical wedding.
I thank Ingmar Bergman for the old man's dream of clocks without hands in Wild Strawberries ... that began a train of thought.
Now, though so close to completing the 22, must veer off to do my Nonny Mouse cards.
Anyway ... ta da ... the World,
