Hi, I am in the process of creating entirely hand-made "pure-sculpt" dolls, poseable ones, that will comprise a deck I am choosing the working title of "The Metaphorical" for. It will be a series of dioramas, mainly inspired by the styles of the original Visconti imagery, with refs to something of RWS imagery but probably interpreted very much through the Late Medieval/Early Renaissance period of the original decks, with refs to art of the period.

It is very ambitious & will cost me much in investment of resources, time & effort, but I am VERY excited, & only want to get going!! :ok

I will post as I have anything to post.

I actually DO have a lovely back & a title card - I'd like to show at least those off! :D

Thank you so much, yeah - that's what I am DETERMINED to REALLY get a start on!! :D

I found an armature I had made before I moved (that was well over a year ago, heh) & it was for a doll for this. I'm going to start with The Fool, & just work my way through In Order (I'm like that!).

I'm starting a sculpt as of TODAY - I am SO anxious to clothe him, & put him into his little vignette (I've been on an eBay treasure hunt for props, & I have complete ideas as to backdrops &c.! :D )

Oh, & this also involves a sculpt of a little Italian whippet sort of doggie, as well; pretty sure I can manage that! ;)

Btw, everyone (as there is no introductory sub here), I am blackroseivy on AT - I should have kept the same name but who knows, maybe I'll change it THERE! ;)

Something of an update:

I have been working on something else (a collaboration, actually) & I haven't been able to work on my own idea as much as I'd like. However - The Fool will be finished soon & then I may actually have something to SHOW... :cl

News again! :D I have heard back from a publisher who I had contacted quite a while ago (I had been talking to her about 2 years ago & went back again) to ask if they were taking submissions again. They are & she wants to see, so I have to do something on this quick because this is the one I really want to pursue! :D

Ok, something anyway.

I have The Fool - he is awaiting his clothes, but I expect to have the card by tomorrow, or Monday at the latest (I will be out Sunday so I can't take the photos then). He's comin' along! :hp

He is posed as I want him; he is at he end of my bed (as you can see) - he will be reclining at the edge of a cliff, playing a tiny recorder. He will have a dog behind him, & some scenery.

Kinda excited - my 1st card!

I'll be doing this, The Sun, & the King & Ace of Wands for a publisher to look at.

Did it over, it's a bit more figure-focused now.

The doll is interesting.

To me, the ornate border that surrounds the card and underlies the background, the frames for the number and title, and the fancy typeface all clutter the card and distract from the main image.

I will probably send in just the image without the number & title. The background actually came out just like I wanted it - it's patterned but not dominating, & it's like that (patterned) because it is a reference to the patterned backs of the Visconti cards.

I'm going to change the background to a blue sky with white clouds, put clouds under him too, & re-shoot it with him bigger in the card so that he's mostly what you see.

I decided that the background just needs to be plainer; I like the idea of gold, but plain & not too prominent, so I put gold lam`e behind the scene, also clouds. He is now the focus, & I think that the card is a better image now.

hi pernelle

i like your latest version of the Fool the best. because its clear, focused and easy to read.

i wouldn't mind viewing a borderless version, or at least a solid color border, if you are up for trying one more. i think the narrow border, is still a bit distracting...it takes my eye away from the central image, the fool.

best of luck with this fun project!
susi

You read my mind! :cl hehe I am going to re-do it with a solid gold border, I think (gold ink would be nice!).

I have a few more details I'd like to add so that it isn't so stark; also smaller feathers for his head. I can't do that for another couple of weeks - I need to buy the things, & I get my money on the 29th. But I'll be working on it again soon. :hp

I'm thinking of this - & would you believe ANOTHER & completely different idea?

I'm going to send them both to the publisher & see what "sticks." :kt

oh, you know what....i just noticed that the 2nd from the last version of the card has a long black drop off at the bottom.i like the that. The long drop gives the Fool a more risk/hazardous feeling.

What I mean is,you might keep the last version but with the longer vertical drop to the edge...like the Fool is going to drop off a precipice because he is mesmerized with the music.
