Mining the places where others fear to tread - his marketing skills are as brilliant as his art. So much comic darkness - creating in that style might drive a soul less strong into an asylum, were they still around.

I remember the graveyard dirt in little bottles - it could all have gone terribly wrong, but he has just the right touch/tone.

the dark satirical quality of his work was elusive to me at first and I find it ironic that I had to see the "film negatives" like imagery of his work before recognizing his genius.; a matter of seeing his art in a "different light" so to speak.

Yes his marketing approach walks a fine line but he has apparently pulled it off. I suspect it's that satirical tongue in cheek quality that is the glue that binds it all together and also keeps it from being viewed as a cliché.
Overall the ambience and presentation is playful and fun and compelling enough for a mainstream audience as well; quite brilliant indeed.
